The buzz about The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is developing a brand-new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer packed with intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction implies that the team could be building a faster-paced experience instead of another turn-based title. For now, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it kicked off the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, player agency, and complex character building—elements that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities only possible if you're playing as a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also famously permissive, enabling players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be approached in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.
More to Come
It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can anticipate another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
