The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Management Shift Comes After Poor Response
The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's lackluster initial reveal last autumn.
On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer informed staff about this strategic move through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had revealed the need for a more defined vision.
Ismailer expressed that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a refreshed focus, aiming to address gamer demands.
A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions
The news echoes a similar move taken by the publisher in the summer, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the complete content from the president's communication:
Dear Team—
I understand you all just wrapped up your gathering - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Previously I shared you all a note, I stated the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most motivated and creative creators we have had the opportunity to work with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to persist.”
With your dedication and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.
The community feedback from last autumn’s the game testing phase was revealing. It confirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but indicated we still had work to do. It highlighted the requirement for a more distinct identity.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the criticism to mind and revamped Project ETHOS with a renewed goal - one that’s ready to achieve its potential to our players.
The belief in this project increases every day. To boost the incredible development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to announce the new hire as the incoming Studio Head of 31st Union. After several months of conversations, he comes aboard us on next week.
His leadership and background in the PVP shooter field is vast, having dedicated the last 15 years producing and managing some of the most popular titles in gaming, such as the acclaimed shooter, and lately, Apex Legends.
I invite you all in receiving Ben soon. We are all looking forward to continue seeing the progress of Project ETHOS in the time to come.
David
